आपण विषुववृत्ताच्या जवळ राहतो. आपण लहानपणापासून शिकलो आहे की, पृथ्वी सूर्याभोवती फिरत असताना स्वतःभोवती फिरते. पृथ्वीचा फिरण्याचा वेग हा विषुववृत्ताजवळ जवळपास चारशे साठ मीटर प्रतिसेकंद एवढा आहे. आता आपण देखील पृथ्वीच्या पृष्ठभागावर राहतो याचाच अर्थ असा की आपल्या फिरण्याचा वेग देखील तेवढाच आहे. त्यामुळे आपल्याला असे वाटते की आपण स्थिर आहोत.
पृथ्वी ज्या वेगाने भ्रमण करते तो वेग आपल्याला यासाठी जाणवत नाही कारण आपण पृथ्वीच्या पृष्ठभागाशी जोडले गेलो आहोत आणि त्यामुळे पृथ्वी आणि आपल्यामध्ये कोणतही थेट संपर्क नाही. आपण देखील त्याचवेगाने फिरत आहोत ज्या वेगाने पृथ्वी फिरत आहे.            
  परंतु आपलं शरीर देखील पृथ्वीसोबत फिरत असल्या कारणाने आपलं शरीर स्थिर असतं. म्हणजेच पृथ्वी ज्या दिशेने फिरत आहे त्याच दिशेने आपलं शरीर देखील फिरत असतं आणि हेच कारण आहे की आपल्याला पृथ्वीच्या फिरण्याचा वेग जाणवत नाही.उदाहरण पहा समजा तुम्ही चालत्या बसमध्ये नाणे वर टाकुन हातात झेलण्याचा प्रयत्न केलातर, नाणे तुमच्या हातात येऊन पडेल. कारण तुम्ही बसच्या गतीने जात आहात त्यामुळे त्या गतीचा नाण्यावर कोणताच परिणाम होणार नाही. त्याचप्रकारे, आपण देखील पृथ्वीच्या पृष्ठभागावर राहतो, त्यामुळे आपल्याला पृथ्वीची गती जाणवत नाही. आपल्याला पृथ्वीची गती तेव्हाच जाणवले, जेव्हा पृथ्वीच्या गतीमध्ये फरक पडेल, तिला हादरा बसेल किंवा जेव्हा पृथ्वी तिची दिशा बदलेल.

आणखिन एक उदाहरण- आपण बसमध्ये बसलेलो असतो, तेव्हा ज्या वेगाने बस चाललेली असते,तोच आपला देखील वेग असतो. जर तुम्ही उडी मारण्याचा प्रयोग बसमध्ये केला, तर तुम्हाला असे जाणवेल की बस ही स्थिरच आहे. जर तुम्हाला आपल्या पायाखालून बस जाताना पाहायची असेल, तर तुम्हाला अंदाजे साठ किलोमीटर प्रति तास या वेगाने उडी मारावी लागेल.

पृथ्वी वेगाने फिरते. ह्याचा अर्थ जमीन, आकाश, वातावरण तुम्ही, आम्ही, झाडावर बसलेले पक्षी, हवेत सोडलेला फुगा…ह्या सगळ्या गोष्टीही त्याच वेगाने फिरतात. जर उडी मारल्याने आपल्या पायाखालून जमीन फिरत असती तर विमाने थोडा वेळ हवेतच उभी करून लोक भारताचे लंडनला पोहचले असते.
